I have been taking Tramadol and Endep for almost a year now for chronic back pain. This followed a lot of different drugs trying to find which worked for me. At first the two drugs worked very well indeed and I thought I have stumbled across my miracle drug. The Endep I take just before going to bed to assist my sleeping and as a backup for the Tramadol. Almost right from the start I began having difficulties sleeping, would get up constantly throughout the night and would wake up in the morning exhausted from trying to trick myself into sleeping. Recently it has been getting much worse, I find I am terribly anxious in large crowds, rather moody, fall asleep at work and even find it difficult sometimes to keep my eyes on the road whilst driving, having to shake my head to stay awake. I have hot and cold flushes and never ever feel like I have been rested. Slowly I think I am going mad. The Endep is used for neuropathic pain. From what my GP said
it intercepts the pain nerves from my brain. At first this drug
also worked a treat, but I could and can still not take anything
more that 50mg or I become like a zombie, slow, like a haze has
been drawn over me. I am now waking up with severe headaches and
my pain is slowly starting to show its ugly face again in full
force, despite this cocktail I am taking. Daniel - Maroochydore,
Australia Amytripteline is an anti-depressant which I don't take that often now as it makes me dopey, and not sleepy. Sharon - Lincoln, UK I know from experience that amytripteline is NOT a drug you want to be taking. I had numerous side effects, even to the point of a 40 pound weight gain and my teeth falling out. I replaced it with trazodone and celexa, both modern, cutting edge meds with little to no side affects. Beverley - Illinois, USA The one drug that has worked for my boyfriend is amitriptyline.
The benefits, in his case, far outweigh the side affects. He gets
a very dry mouth which in turn can cause extensive tooth decay,
but his dentist prescribes a mouthwash he uses to counteract this
problem. The amitriptyline helps him to get a much better nights
sleep, which in itself makes it worth taking, but more importantly
he has noticed a marked improvement in his pain levels. It took
a while to take effect and was a subtle change over a period of
time, but now he couldn't do without them. A carer - England

In the past I have been prescribed Amitriptylene, which had extremely unpleasant results, both physically and psychologically. I found myself unable to concentrate long enough to read a newspaper article for a couple of months, suffered night-time hallucinations, and felt every area of my thinking was impaired. I also felt very nauseous, vomited and fainted frequently, had hot and cold flushes, and pretty much every other unpleasant physical symptom you can think of! They did not help my pain levels, and I repeatedly asked to be taken off them. My advice would be NOT to continue taking this drug if you do not feel it is helping the pain, and you are finding the side effects unbearable - for me they never improved. Lucy - Oxford, UK I have been on Amitripteline for 2 months now and I have had no side effects. I no longer lose my temper easily and have been able to sleep at night. I have lost 17 pounds because I was a "depressed eater". my relationship with my family has improved and I feel better in general. Michelle - Detroit, USA |
