Analgesic: You name it - I've taken it. MS Contin (Morphine Sulfate SA), Oxycontin (Oxycodone HCL), Oxy IR5 (Oxycodone non-time release), Ultram (Tramadol HCL) and many narcotic and non-narcotic medicines. It either works or it doesn't, you all know that. Some days even the best thing won't work. Trish Pennsylvania, USA Oxycontin - I have bad side effects from this pill, however it is the first to take away the extreme pain. If I try to do anything the pain comes right back. So I'm pretty laid up most of the time from this pill and I hate that. I want a different pain pill, but this is the first one that has had any real effect on me, so I'm taking it until I hear of something else. Cheryl - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA I was first diagnosed with RSD a year ago after being in a car accident five years ago. I saw a number of doctors and described my symptoms but received no diagnosis. However, after talking to some friends with the same problems I was referred to a doctor who could finally tell me what was going on.(I WAS'NT CRAZY AFTER ALL). I have been taking doxepin (for sleeping) lamictal (to calm down my nervous system) effexor (to help me keep it all together) and oxycotin (to help with pain). Well, after all that I am still having problems . My next course of action is thalidomine. I hope this will work. Any believers who are out there please pray for me. Crystal - New Jersey, USA I've had RSD for 13 years since a bad cab accident that caused
extensive nerve damage to my upper body. I had two transpositions
of the ulnar nerve, two dissections of the brachial plexus, a
radial nerve dissection, plus a triquetrum/hamate repair. After
all this time I am fortunate to have my RSD relatively under control
i.e. a daily pain score around 4. My magic bullet was Oxycontin
plus tizanidine (Zanaflex) a short-acting, alpha2-adrenergic receptor
agonist which is often used for spasticity. I also occasionally
use Viox. Actiq is great as a breakthrough pain med because of
how quickly it enters the body via the gums. It is not a long
term maintenance med as are either tizanidine or oxycontin. I got this sad ass disease three years ago in my left arm and now it is in all four limbs and I am the only person in Canada that has a dual spinal cord stimulator. In my first year with RSD I used pretty much every drug I thought was out there, all of whick did nothing but constipate me and make me sleep - until I came accross oxycontin. Please you guys give this one a try! I know you will hear a lot about this drug that is bad, but it is bad for druggy's not chronic pain suferers! This drug gave me back my life. Try it for a month and tell me different! David - Canada I have had RSD for almost 10 years now. I broke my ankle in 3 places and they never quite healed properly, so I was left suffering to no need with RSD. It is an awful pain one has to live with. As far as drugs go, you end up getting immune to them and they can cause more harm than the RSD itself. I am going on to Dialuid or perhaps Demerol but now, after years of Oxycontin, I need to get through withdrawal which I hear is really rough! I am willing to do it as these pills are efffecting my LIVER. This is dangeruos and It can be helped by stopping any medicaines with Opiates. I suffer so much but these meds no longer work at all for me personally I belong to a great pain clinic. Can anyone suggest a good medication one can take for RSD that works wel? I am open to any suggestions at all to astelmazuk@sympatico.ca. Please, if you have any ideas you would like to share with me, I would appreciate that very much. Susan - Montreal, Canada Oxycontin is made out to be one of the strongest chronic pain medications there is as it is more potent than morphine. The adult world of RSD is a total 360 degree from the teen aspect, so I cannot speak for the adults; but for the teens I can say Oxycontin is worthless for treating RSD. I am on 80mg twice a day and it doesn't do a single thing. It has no effect on my body whatsoever. But it is in my rule book that you give it a try to see if it might. Austin - Pennsylvania, USA |
