Phentolomine infusion seems to be a new drug which goes in the infusion over 12 to 14 hours, along with the morphine pump. I have had RSD in my left arm and hand for the last four years and I was asked by my consultant to try this as my RSD is by all accounts one of the worst cases he has seen. I am at the stage where my hand has stopped working, so I gave it ago, but it didn't work for me as I was told that it was because my RSD was too far advanced. Another consultant told me that that it would have better effects on people who were caught early. I will find out more about the infusion for you as best I can. Brian - Carrigfurgus, Northern Ireland I was one of the first to have Phentolomine infusions done, starting in 1995,at least in the San Diego, California area. I had very good luck with the Phentolomine, and I already had RSD for 4 years prior, I waited till 1993 to get medicare disability, which paid for the first treatments. It was a work comp injury and I had had simple arthroscopic surgery to my left knee. I had 4-5 series of infusions done in 1995 and went from severe intense pain to almost none and from not being able to walk at all, to running by the end of the year. I see that none of the RSD sites promotes Phentolomine any longer, for what reason I don't know, as it worked for me so should work for others (though we are all different when it comes to drugs and their effects). I had to continue with the infusions till 1999, and the final 2 series of infusions did not work any longer. Then the doctor talked me into having markaine injections from which I got incredibly sick for a year and the pain intensified 10 fold, accompanied by a 24 hour a day migraine headache. Phentolomine is short lived in patients who have had RSD for quite a while, but very promising to new patients if caught in time. I would like to know why Phentolomine is not listed in any of the RSD sites. Rick - Pahrump, Nevada, USA |
