Remedeine Forte

Description
This medicine contains two active ingredients, paracetamol (500Mg) and dihydrocodeine tartrate (30Mg). Paracetamol is a medicine used in the treatment of mild to moderate pain. It is also useful for reducing fever. Dihydrocodeine tartrate belongs to a group of medicines called opoids, which mimic the effects of naturally occurring pain reducing chemicals (endorphins) that are found in the brain and spinal cord. They act on the opoid receptors in the brain and block the transmission of pain signals. Therefore, even though the cause of the pain may remain, less pain is actually felt. The paracetamol and dihydrocodeine tartrate in this drug combine into one tablet for the relief of constant or severe pain, especially after surgery or in the suffering of cancer patients.

I went to my doctor today and he has given me some new painkillers called Remedeine Forte. Has anybody got info on these tablets? Rose - Wales

The tablets you refer to are Remedeine Forte (paracetamol 500mg, dihydrocodeine 30mg). They are the same as Kapake, Co-Codamol, Distalgesic but might be effervescent tablets. There doesn't seem to be too much information about them on the internet as they appear to have been discontinued in some places. Barry - Rutland, UK

The statement that this medicine is the same as Co-Codamol and Co-Proxamol (Distalgesic) is actually false, Co-Codamol contains Paracetamol and Codeine Phosphate, a different opiate from Dyhidrocodeine or dextropropoxyphene hydrochloride which is Distalgesics opiate content. Elliott Saunders (www.ellsweb.com) Many thanks also to Elliott for providing the description for this medication.

I am taking Remedeine Forte for arthritis pain, I find them the best pain killers I have had to date. I tried all the usual ones but they all gave me stomach trouble. The side effects I have experienced with these tablets included tiredness and dehydration. I was told by my pharmacist that they are 30% stronger than Remedeine, which didn't seem to work for me. I have been subscribed 500g Naprosyn morning and night and two 500g Remedine Tablets every 6 hrs or when needed to help me walk and be pain free as I am waiting cartilage operation. I find them very good (the only side effect is tiredness) which is not a bad to be pain free. But what does concern me, I have been informed I will have to wait 12 months before seeing the consultant and wondered about the amount of tablets I am taking what they could be doing to my inside. I have been taking Remedeine Forte for several months, but they only give me short term pain relief. They are however a great relief, when used with Diclofenac Sodium, the combination of both gives me daily pain relief. I have slight arthritis in my spine, and I also have Sciatica. Since the Doctor prescribed Diclofenac 50mg, three times a day, along with the Remedeine, 1 to 2 four times a day I have had total pain relief. No side effects at all from Diclofenac, but I have side effects from Remedeine Forte. The side effects of Remedeine Forte are: tiredness, sickly feeling, constipation, dry mouth/thirst, loss of appetite, short temper. Brian - Bedworth, UK
