I was having so much pain in my right foot and everyday it got
worse. So I finally went to see a podiatrist for help. He told
me I had a tumor in my foot and something called plantar fascia
and that I needed to have surgery to fix these problems. I had
the surgery. It didn't work! And that was after he pumped me full
of cortisone time after time after time, which didn't work either.
So my family doctor told me to go see an Orthopedic Specialist.
So I went to see the one who saw my son when he was two years
old and had problems walking because he would trip over his own
feet. This doctor fixed my son's problems without any surgery.
He just used special inserts put into any and every pair of shoes
he had to wear for the next two years. I was very impressed with
this doctor so I went to see him.
He tells me the podiatrist was wrong by telling me that I had
a tumor and plantar faciaotomy, turns out he says I had tarsal
tunnel syndrome and to correct it I would need surgery, as if
you guys didn't know that was coming. I had the surgery and still
continued to have the pain but now it was worse and further up
my leg. This doctor made me believe that something I did made
the Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome come back and he needed to do the surgery
again.
Not only did I have that surgery, but I had several others because
this doctor was the head of orthopedic surgery for a local hospital
in my area and I believed what he was telling me.
Well, after I had my ankle totally rebuilt and an operation called
a Lumbar Sympathetic Dystrophy (LSD); that's where they make a
six inch incision in your lower abdomen, move a few vital organs
out of the way and sever the nerve that controls the portion of
your leg, ankle, foot or wherever you are feeling the pain. But
before the Neurologist can do the LSD he has an anesthesiologists
give you several surgeries where they put you to sleep and give
you extremely long needles full with a solution that makes your
nerve numb for a few days, this they call Sympathetic Nerve Blocks
and they just inject a different nerve every time until they figure
out which nerve they have to sever.
After 27 surgeries in 5 years to get rid of the pain things are
only worse after seeking an appointment with one of the top Orthopedic
Surgeon and Neurologist they tell me that all the surgeries the
first two doctors did to relieve the pain they actually caused
me to get RSD.
So now along with my Fibromyalgia and RSD I get the pleasure
of spending the rest of my life taking the 29 prescription medications
plus the prescription I was given for the pain I am relegated
to take just to ease some of my pain and be able to function enough
to make it through my day. Not to mention how this has affected
my husband and family.
So if you are told you have RSD really do your homework before
the doctors helping you talk you into having surgery!
