Bio Feedback
Description
 A method of helping patients control their own pain by regulating the body's own chemical responses. A monitor gives feedback so the patient learns to recognise the state of relaxation that produces optimum conditions.

I have been having Bio-Feedback treatment at the Guildford Royal Surrey Hospital. It is hard to explain but basically they teach you a technique to produce 'alpha' brain waves which happen when you are calm and relaxed - this in effect dampens down the pain. It is a very nice experience and I definitely feel I have benefited from it. It is surprisingly easy to learn if you are willing to relax and concentrate on what she gives you to think about - not your shopping lists! This is carried out at the pain clinic by the psychologist, who is great. Jackie - Guildford, Surrey, UK
