In my work with RSD I work with the focus on the whole body not just the area affected by RSD. Massage works with the parasympathetic & sympathetic nervous systems and it is the balance between the two which is critical in helping the body maintain a homeostasis.
For some reason in RSD, the area traumatized is over stimulated and is truly out of balance.
By working on the traumatized area, which is creating a stress in the body due to the pain, it would, in my opinion, be compounding the RSD by increasing the stress hormones (ie: cortisol, glucocortidcoids). This is a vicious circle. If you don't get the body to relax it cannot heal; so I work on the rest of the body as part of the focus versus the traumatized area. Louise (massage therapist) - USA

I hope this might be helpful to at least some people. Having suffered for some months with little relief except pain-killers and having tried various therapies such as herbal medicine and acupuncture I was offered Spiritual Healing which gave relief firstly for a day and then for longer each visit until most of the active pain was gone. Then I had Mctimoney Chiropractic to sort out the structural problems (partly caused by using sticks to walk),and that was very helpful. I also had Massage and Reflexology to get the muscles moving, improve flexibility and reduce swelling. Finally (seven months down the line) I had Physiotherapy consisting mostly of exercises to improve flexibility and build back muscle tissue which has been very helpful.. Homeopathy has also helped (Ruta Grav 6th potency) I feel as if I'm improving and definitely have vastly less pain and greater mobility week by week. Ian Markham - England
